Tattoo After Care with a Saniderm bandage.
Saniderm, Tagaderm, or 2nd skin is the clear bandage we put on your tattoo. It is the same bandage used in hospitals over I.Vs, burns, lacerations, sutures, etc.
1.
Leave the bandage on your tattoo 3-7 days. The bandage is water resistant so you can wear it in the shower. Excess fluid may build up underneath, this is normal! The tattoo lives in your dermis, during the healing process all excess fluids in the epidermis will build up underneath the bandage because it cannot evaporate. If the barrier is broken or the bandage lifts up off the tattooed skin you should remove it to prevent harboring germs. Do not perspire profusely with the bandage on.
2.
When you are ready to remove the bandage do not rip it off. Go in the sink or shower, with clean hands lift up one of the corners. Proceed to run water where you are peeling (as if you are rinsing the bandage off) and slowly peel it away.
3.
Only touch your tattoo with clean hands. To ensure they are clean, throughly scrub all areas of the hand with warm soap and water for a minimum of 20 seconds. Dry your hands with a clean paper towel. Do not touch anything between cleaning your hands and touching your tattoo.
4.
Once the bandage is removed be sure to keep your tattoo clean and moisturized. The simpler the product the better! Avoid scents, dyes, and petroleum based products. Wash your tattoo 2-3 times a day and whenever it potentially comes into contact with germs. Use the moisturizer as needed when your tattoo feels dry and/or itchy. Only apply a thin layer of moisturizer. When handling your after care products make sure to not contaminate them by touching the product directly with your hands to remove it from its' container.
5.
Do not submerge your tattoo in water until it is fully healed. This includes things like swimming or baths.
6.
Avoid as much friction as possible on your tattoo! This includes rubbing, scratching , and picking.
7.
Once your tattoo is fully healed apply a moisturizer and sunscreen daily.
